Idaho Folkstyle State 2025-March 21-22

The Sandpoint Legacy Wrestling Club athletes recently participated in the 2025 Idaho Folkstyle State Tournament, held in Nampa, Idaho. The tournament took place on March 21-22, 2025, at Skyview High School, bringing together some of the best young wrestlers in the state. This two day tournament showcased their hard work, determination, and the spirit of competition.
On Friday, day one, the PreK/K started us off with a bang with Trapper Feist earning the top award by pinning three opponents and teching his way through the finals. Wilder and Trapper shared a bracket that Wilder ended with 4th place going 3-2. Colt Russell wrestled his way through a 32 man bracket to the finals going 4-1 for the day and earning 2nd place. Ryker Salcedo rounded out our little guys with 3rd place. Wrestling continued with 1/2 grades, with Kai Fusco earning 2nd, Reed Russell 3rd, and Trapper Feist double bracketed in the 49 lb bracket and getting in some valuable mat time.
Bright and early Saturday morning we began the battles with 3/4 grades. Kai Fusco and Reed Russell double bracketed up for some extra mat time, and boy did it work out! Reed ended with the gold after many matches and one impressive overtime win, way to dig deep Reed! Kai, in the same bracket, finished with a W and 5th place. Jaeger and Kaleb joined in on the fun, with some large brackets and tough opponents. Kaleb ended the day wrestling a great match which unfortunately ended with the other guy winning, but the growth throughout his 4-2 day was evident. Jaeger finished with 4th place in his 32 man bracket.
Following in the 5th/6th grade, Olivia Watson wrestled pinning through all five opponents, securing her spot at the top of the podium. Jaeger doubled up for some more mat time, finishing 2-2.
Most of our 6th/7th graders doubled up into the high school division for some extra mat time. Dalton Regehr earned 1st place, winning a very challenging first round match. Maxx Watson earned 5th, taking the long way around going 5-2, and Olivia wrestled up and earned 4th place in MS girls. Reed Corey, Axel Jones, and Cole Martin all earned some valuable mat time at one of the states toughest stages. Unfortunately, Cole ended the day with a pretty ugly headbutt from an opponent.
Keeping the fun rolling, beginning at 6pm, the high schoolers took to the mats, and when I say highschoolers, I mean one high schooler, Gage Martin, who earned 3rd place, and a whole bunch of middle schoolers who doubled up. Dalton Regehr ended with his second gold for the day, taking to the top of the podium one more time in 98lb. Maxx Watson went 4-1 to earn 2nd place, bringing his match count for the day to 12. Reed Corey and Axel Jones wrestled hard, and as the saying goes, you are either winning or learning!
At the end of the day, our little club from North Idaho held its own, tying with Idaho Gold WC at 11th place with 207 points out of 94 teams. What a weekend, we are all tired and the coaches minds are buzzing with all of the great things they saw, and making notes for learning to come for the Sandpoint Legacy Wrestling Club athletes!
