While part of the team was in Nampa for Idaho Folkstyle State, we had a baker’s-dozen at the WLGWL Folkstyle tournament at Gonzaga Prep and another 6-pack up in Bonners ready for Freestyle and Greco.

Without a full run-down from the coaches on site at G-Prep, we pulled in the results and assume that with over 400 participants there must have been some tough competition. At the conclusion of all sessions, five medals were earned and three more, Pax, Connor and Tristan, just missed the podium placing 4th.

Freestyle/Greco day in Bonners is all about learning and having fun. We were thrilled to have returning high schoolers under our banner again and while Zak and Tyler have a little experience to lean on (good thing since they only made it to one practice), our four other teammates, Vanessa, Summer, Rocco and Brayden were wrestling their first Freestyle matches ever.

The morning started with Greco and the Wood boys were the only ones wrestling so there was lots of time to catch action from the other competitors -we saw some fun moves and big throws. The Freestyle portion of the event started at noon and everyone had at least two matches to go out and try new things and practice wrestling in this style. After every match there was plenty of off-mat coaching and mentoring for all the wrestlers to continue to learn.
