Wow these NIWL tournaments are growing like crazy! They had over 800 registered wrestlers this past weekend at Lake City. The good news was they were running between 12 and 16 mats in two gyms - the bad news was during our busiest sessions, 8U and 12U/14U, we didn’t get to see everyone wrestle as we ended up sticking to zone coaching, sometimes two matches at a time, to keep up.

All of our 6U wrestlers were in attendance to start the morning. Miles and Savannah showed up to Lake City with a little bit more confidence and won all their matches and Luke and Liam got to experience their first tournament. Great job Pre-Bantams!

It is exciting to see such a big group of 8U wrestlers committing to the tournaments. We had another great turnout with 13 wrestlers and a half dozen placed top three. Unfortunately, Colt and Evan were in the same bracket and had to face off for the third-place spot, but it was good match for two of our toughest Bantams.

Five wrestlers in 10U would have been boring after the morning rush but there were several exciting matches to keep the heart rate high. Pax had one of the best wins of the day and Tawnay earned a silver medal is his first ever tournament.

The final session for 12U and 14U again is a busy and wild ride for the team. Of course, Legacy was there till the bitter end with the last match of the day - which is a good problem to have, that means we have kids wrestling in the finals. We had that little gym full of Legacy spirit watching the Middle Schoolers close out the day bringing home the hardware.
