CDA Buzzsaw hosted the NIWL Team Tournament this past Saturday. It was another 800-wrestler count day and with both small and large team recognition on the line it was also another tough day of competition.

The league’s old school method of determining team size and scoring members makes it difficult for the coaches to gamble on whose brackets are going to help payoff for the team in the points. We know we didn’t win for small teams, and honestly we don’t even know where we landed, but we do know that even if some of our point scorers didn’t have the best day, we had other team members celebrate their best personal finish and that is something our team can be proud of.

Those cute little PB’s kept collecting the ribbons and getting more comfortable on the mat before the busy 8U brackets started. During her second match, Amzie gave us one of the greatest comebacks on her way to 1st place; being down 22-11 at the beginning of the 3rd period she fought hard and pinned her opponent with 2 seconds to spare. Proof, you can’t ever give up.

Just five wrestlers in 10U produced a pair of silver medals and one gold prior to the final session starting up. Being in one gym was a tight fit and crowd control was crazy so we still had to fight to see as many matches as we could amongst our 23 wrestlers in the 12U/14U group. As we ground down to the finals, 17 Legacy kids were vying for medals and 13 placed.
